TeamViewer Is Cross Platform

It’s very rare that one program works for everything across the board, but TeamViewer does just that – Mac, Linux, PC, iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Windows 8/RT. So whatever you and your clients/friends/family use, TeamViewer is all-inclusive.

Multiple Simultaneous Remote Sessions

Whether you need to help several people or want to access a second computer while helping someone else, the multiple sessions feature enables you to do that. In the top left corner, you’ll notice a “+”, which launches a new tabbed session within the same window.

Record Sessions For Later Viewing

While a recording is in progress, a “REC” symbol (like on those old-fashioned video tapes) will appear in the top right corner of the window. Upon stopping the recording, you’ll be prompted to save the session file.

The video file is opened and played by TeamViewer and can even be converted to other video formats.

Seamless File Transfer

Though there are some excellent ways to share files, having a constant medium to do so makes it so much simpler, especially when working with folks who are “computer illiterate”10 Helpful Resources on the Basics For The Computer Illiterate10 Helpful Resources on the Basics For The Computer IlliterateRead More. To do this, go to the TeamViewer toolbar, then “File Transfer”. You’re presented with two options: “File Transfer” (access files to share from your PC) and “File Box” (drag and drop files to share).

The third option is to go to the Computers & Contacts windows, right click the user/computer you want to send a file too, and click the “paper clip” icon.

Adjust Visual Settings

Various visual settings can be modified to bring in the feel of actually using the computer you’re remote connecting to, or to optimize the speed and decrease resolution for slower connections. You can do this by going to “View” in the TeamViewer toolbar (while connected). You’ll be presented with several options: “Quality”, “Scaling”, “Screen Resolution”, as well as “Show whole desktop”, “Remove wallpaper” and others. Also note the “Full Screen” button below the “Extras” menu.

Text, Audio And Video Chat For Quick Communication

There’s no reason to download a 3rd-party chat client or call the person – TeamViewer’s integrated chat feature takes care of the hassle. This will appear on the top right side of the screen, and may be minimized on default. Just click the small “arrow” and the chat window will expand. From here you can immediately use text chat or audio/video call the person.

  5. nice

  6. The problem with Teamviewer is how prohibitive their commercial license is. I ended up going with dualmon.com . Way cheaper than logmein.

  7. my cousin wants to use team viewer on my laptop to work with his colleagues, is it safe? i mean how far can they have access to my files?

  8. Kindly help with feature to avoid to always running QS support for the purpose to connect my mobile device 'How to keep it always running '.

Although the file transfer function is working probably the remote access option not shown in the dashboard in my computer.

  9. I meant to say, 'drops every 15 minutes'.

  10. I love Team viewer too, unfortunately it's just not stable. Drops every 15 seconds. Look like I'll have to pay for LogMeIn!

  11. I prefer Ammyy Admin. It seems to be faster. Also it works without installation and specific settings. Moreover, commercial license is cheaper. I had to pay only once. Paid license is lifetime. Of course, there is also free version of the soft.

  12. Does not work on Macs!

There is a version of Teamviewer for Mac hosts, but many people find that it does not work. CPU usage goes very high, and the Mac becomes unusable. Difficult to troubleshoot when you're in another state, or country!

  13. Thanks for the informative article and comments. I am just curious to know if it is possible in teamviewer to allow just one way file transfer --- only from client to host and restrict the other way completely.

    Thanks a ton.

  14. Great article!
But Kim's question 'Can more than one person remote into your desktop at one time? ' is my major issue too.

If anyone has had the experience of 2+ users 'remoting' into a machine concurrently, please share.

    Thanks.

    • We do a 3-way with TeamViewer a lot to help my dad out with his computer.
      1. Dad opens TeamViewer while we are on a 3-way phone call.
      2. Then my boyfriend and I each plug in Dad's TeamViewer ID number & password into our respective computers with TeamViewer.
Result: Both my boyfriend and me are looking at Dad's desktop and we are both able to take control of the mouse on Dad's computer to show him stuff.. and get him out of technical messes! :)
My favorite comment during these sessions is, 'Let go of the mouse and put your hands in the air!'

  15. I am trying to record a pc to android session. But I am unable to save the recorded session. It is always telling me to discard recorded session giving no option to save it.

    How to solve this problem?

  16. When i tried to logon to a meeting with the browser version the host couldnt hear my voice?
I clicked the audio button on the browser version and i could see only the speaker and not the audio icon .

Could you please help me in getting out of the issue ?

    • Arun,

It could be your microphone on your computer. When you launch the 'recording app', does it pick up sound? My first inclination would be to check that. Whether it does or doesn't work determines the direction you go.

I would suggest heading over to our Answers page (NO LONGER AVAILABLE) or getting in touch with TeamViewer support.

Keep me posted on what you find!

  17. Aaron, superb article! Kim, TurboMeeting and GoSupportNow allow more than one person to remotely support one computer at the same time. I do not know if TeamViewer supports this.

  18. I don't get it. Everything works, I have the dashboard, except I cannot see live my Android screen on my PC. How do you get this ? Thx

    • Phil,

You can't see the Android screen live. You can only send screenshots through TeamViewer.

    • Aaron Couch you couldn't be more wrong. In the top left corner of the winow on your desktop, under the windows' title bar, there is a button that says remote control. Clickthat, and it brings up a new separate window, with a live view of your Android's screen.

  19. Can more than one person remote into your desktop at one time? For example, if I remote into my mom's desktop using Teamviewer, can my dad also remote into hers using a different remote access program at the same time? That way, both of us are able to assist her.

    • Kim,

I don't see why you couldn't do that, but I don't have any specific experience doing so.

  20. We have switched to this one - http://www.ammyy.com/en/index.html
Appeared to be really cool and nice. And also

  21. Think the cost of the licensed version for commercial use is reasonable given how easiy and reliable it is. We have three licensed channels for supporting our software with end users and the time saving and reduction in user frustration is worth every penny. I use the non commercial version for helping my parents and in laws with their home use problems - so much easier and quicker than anything else. Highly recommend TeamViewer.

  22. To DonGately
I have been reading the comment by Rama, (above )
Have you ever had this problem after 5 Years experience.?

    • Rama's got it wrong.

  23. The TeamViewer staff are most cooperative. If you're truly a non-commercial user, there's no problem with using it free. Also, I should point out that it's worth setting the 'accept LAN connections' to on for use in your local network!

  24. Warning: TeamViewer is NOT free. If you use it too often, they will disable access and you will have to purchase a VERY costly license to use it.

    • Rama,
You are right. I use TeamViewer once in a while to help friends with PC issues. A reminder displays that it is only free for personal use. I wanted to use it for my PC training business, but it costs too much for me to purchase. Do you have another, cheaper alternative? Thanks.

    • Whats too often?

    • I have a friend that uses it everyday and he has never had to purchase anything from Team Viewer. Weird, huh?

  25. I also have used TeamViewer for years.
I help fellow retired people with their minor problems (free).
My largest problem with a 'Non Computer Person' is getting them to download the client and running it. Just takes a bit of time.
Once they have it it runs like a charm and I am usually able to clear up their problem.

  26. How about turning on the computer with TeamViewer? Something I found very useful in my time using it.

    • can you share the specifics on how to do this, please!

    • The option is called Wake-on-LAN, documented in the TeamViewer help files.

  27. Yes, I've been using free TeamViewer for at least 5 years and have been totally satisfied. I have 5 computers on my home network and interact with each, when I need to, via a TeamViewer window on my primary system's large secondary monitor. UI performance, except for videos of course, doesn't seem to be the least bit impacted.

I've only used it a few times when away from my home network but it worked identically when I did. That consistency is important to me because I need remember no specifics for my very occasional remote use. It also provides its own VPN for security in such situations.

I particularly like that file transfer is no more complicated than dragging a file or directory from an explorer window in the remote machine to one in the host (or vice versa.)

The only thing on my wish list is that they bring the 'Computer sounds' from the remote's 'Audio/Video' tab into the local Windows mixer so its level can be controlled.

  28. I agree - TeamViewer is excellent. I've tried various solutions for working when I out of my home office (combinations of PDAs, laptops, tablets, etc.) and the best is always being able to access my desktop because I never know what I'm going to need as I work with a variety of clients. So with a netbook running Windows and TeamViewer I'm never more than a few keypresses and clicks away from my desktop, however far away I am physically.

Warning: accessing your desktop remotely while you're on holiday can give the catsitter a nasty few moments!

  29. I love using Teamviewer. I have a computer business, and this helps me support my clients without using gas. The best remote software out there.
